In Situ Thermographic Imaging of Shear Bands During Tensile Testing

چکیده

Uniaxial tensile tests were conducted on a Zr-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) with a nominal composition of Zr52.5Cu17.9Ni14.6Al10.0Ti5.0 (at.%). An infrared (IR) camera was utilized in situ during tensile testing to observe shear band evolution and fracture in the BMG. This unique visualization technique revealed that the temperature along the axis of shear band propagation constantly decreases from the point of initiation to arrest.
